World record for most thorny gooseberry?!

on

We’ve been growing in the back garden for 6 years now, both fruits and vegetables.  This year we decided to be brave and take the plunge to commit to an allotment as well!  So much growing space, the possibilities seem endless; we are both delighted and intimidated in equal measure I think!

Anyway, one of the resident “plotters” very kindly gave me 2 little gooseberry plants in the same pot, maybe he’d found out I make gooseberry gin?!!!  They are both very healthy and we have growth already, but I’m curious to find out if anyone else has a super-thorny gooseberry bush?  I wonder if the fruits are even more special if the plant feels the need to protect them that badly?!

Only time will tell!
