Tikka pheasant breast! Wow!

This was an experimental meal for us tonight.  We’ve made this tikka dish before with chicken, but are trying to make some room in the freezer so using up some of the game still in there. We served this with a quick cucumber “pickle” salad which we added green pepper too as well as it…

Purple powered lunch take 2!

Yes indeed, I loved this meal so much I made it again for my lunch today!  I made a few changes, being the “chilli-head” that I am, and mixed some chipotle chilli power in with the slaw (that addition rocked!) and I also had some fresh slices of a Serenade chilli today over the salad….

Purple powered lunch!

I’ve have had a purple inspired lunch today, with home made purple slaw and some “blushing pickled eggs” and home grown explosive ember chillies, absolutely divine! The pickled eggs are from a recipe from Jamie Oliver’s “Every Day Super Food” recipe book. Here’s a link to the book on amazon (click here), but it’s available…

Pan fried Creole rainbow trout

This was the best way we’ve had rainbow trout so far!  We’ve a lovely recipe for making our own Creole spice mix, which was used for tonight’s dinner.  You can do this with a more basic Cajun spice mix too!  It will still be delicious! You fillet your fish (or ask the fish monger to…

Asparagus quiche, no pastry!

Inspired by a recent video doing the rounds on Facebook from Tesco, we decided to make a healthy low fat quiche, using sweet potato as suggested in thin layers instead of pastry for the bottom. It turns out we didn’t have a decent dish for this either, so it was made in a Pyrex casserole…

Spinach and rocket pesto lunch

Good healthy food has no right to be so attractive!  You’d expect it to be brown and sludgy wouldn’t you?! I made an “almost” pesto, using freshly grown rocket and spinach leaves, some olive oil, walnuts and a garlic clove.  No Parmesan or extra salt in there, I wanted that boost of flavour to come…

Chive flowers! Multiple uses!

These gorgeous little flowers taste wonderful, if you’ve not already tried them, you will be amazed! We’ve steeped some in white wine vinegar for 2 weeks.  This makes a lovely onoin tasting vinegar, perfect for dressings on your salads.  It can’t be easier to do! Pick your flowers and wash them to remove any insects…

Peppery rocket and cress salad with feta

Quiet lunch required today while hubby sleeps in from working a night shift and getting home at silly’o’clock! Time for toast, topped with a cracking vitamin and mineral packed peppery salad of mixed leaves, rocket, nasturtium leaves and large water cress, fresh cherry tomatoes and some creamy low fat feta cheese.  Still doesn’t feel like…

Very colourful dinner, lots to see!

Shall we start with the mini-starter?!  Stuffed chilli peppers, full of cheesey goodness! There was a recipe in some distant past, but this is what I throw together usually! 100g feta 100g garlic roule 20g grated parmesan (or other hard cheese) 1 large tomato, de-seeded and chopped 2 fresh chillies, chopped (you can omit these…

Tuna-tastic saucy salad

We have SUNSHINE!!!  I’ve already been out in the garden for several hours today working with the chilli plans and seedlings, there is however much more to do.  These are some of the chilli plants we overwintered successfully enjoying the warm day in the poly-tunnel and we’ve even got a few small chillis starting to…
